The Dental Simulation Center was established in accordance with the vision of Prof. Dr. Theeralaksna Suddhasthira, former Dean of Faculty of Dentistry Mahidol University, Thailand. It was officially opened on June 7, 2013 under the term of the Assoc. Prof. Passiri Nisalak, who is the current dean of Faculty of Dentistry. Faculty of Dentistry aim to be the leading dental education institution and research center in Asia.

“The Dental Simulation Center is a laboratory which simulates the clinical environment for our dental students as they practice and learn pre-clinical courses. The experience of using the Dental Simulation Center will enhance the skills and performance of our students.”

        The center comprises three laboratories.

Lab 1 and 2 : These laboratories contain 120 Clinical Simulator with the Virtual Reality-Based Technology, DentSimTM Navigator systems. The DentsimTM workstation consists of a patient manikin, a fully equipped dental unit, Light Emitting sensors and an overhead infrared camera with the DentSimTM software monitor.

Reading from sensors on the dentoform and handpiece are processed and interpreted by the computer using the spatial orientation of the dentoform, the teeth and the instruments, thus producing a three-dimensional image of the patient’s whole oral cavity. The software provides a real-time virtual image of the student’s preparation in the computer. It then evaluates the tooth preparation both immediately and upon the student’s request.

Real-time evaluation for critical and non-correctable errors is also given as an immediate feedback. This evaluation feedback, given upon request, includes a numerical grade and is presented in visual and written form.

Lab 3 : This laboratory contains 120 Dental Simulation Units with Computerized Training Sytems, which supports the teaching in the dental profession training in 2nd year to 5th year as shown Operative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Masticatory science, Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Anatomy, Dental materials, Ergonomics
